“The NPP stole our idea” – Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Former Sports Minister of the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stole the idea of paying female athletes an amount of GH¢500 a month from the NDC.

Speaking to Abaidoo Abednego on Spice Fm, the former minister laughed off the Covid-19 allowances announced by the current Government, claiming it was their idea.

“The NPP stole our idea of paying female players every month, hence the GH¢500 a month Covid-19 allowance package for female footballers, but we will provide a constructive package”, he opined.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) in July this year announced that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has enrolled five-hundred (500) people within the elite Women’s Premier League into their programme for the next half a year.

The five-hundred people were players drawn from the 16 Women’s League Clubs and twenty (20) others within the same competition in the country.

Each player is expected to receive GH¢500 for the next six months.

The NDC unveiled its Manifesto ahead of the 2020 general elections with notable among them as the Sports Development Fund which is made to provide monthly allowances for every National Team player.
