NDC Manifesto Launch greeted with ‘Dumsor’ in Takoradi but ECG yet to respond
The hopes of party faithfuls and sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Takoradi in the Western Region to watch the party’s Manifesto launch yesterday at the comfort of their homes were dashed when an unexpected power outage popularly known as ‘Dumsor’ hit them hard.
This occurred some ten (10) minutes after the Flagbearer of the NDC, Mr John Dramani Mahama began his presentation on the party’s Manifesto for the 2020 general elections.
The entire communities within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) and the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality (EKMA) went dark for several minutes without any prior notice.
All the street lights were off while the only light you could see were the lamps of vehicles and those at the eateries and pubs along some sections of the roads.
One could not fathom whether the situation was deliberate or a mere coincidence since it happened unannounced.
Meanwhile, prior to the launch, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had announced that there was going to be planned maintenance on Tuesday, 8th September, 2020 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
“The ECG will undertake scheduled maintenance works to improve service delivery”, it said in the announcement.
Areas to be affected would be Beahu, Egyam, Ewusiejoe, Agona Nkwanta, Busua, Cape three points, Dixcove, Nsuaem, Ewusiejoe, Butre, Essaman and Bokro.
“The ECG regrets the inconvenience that will arise out of this exercise”, it stated.
While some have called it a sabotage to prevent people from listening to the much anticipated Manifesto touted as the ‘The Peoples’ Manifesto’, others were of the view that it is a mere coincidence since the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis is a known stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and for that matter there wouldn’t be a need to prevent people from watching or listening to the Manifesto.
However, in an effort to get the Regional Office of the ECG for explanations about the unfortunate incident, Mr Ben Quarcoe, Western Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the ECG hinted that his outfit was preparing to respond to the issue.
