T.T.U TO BEGIN TRAINING OF PRIVATE HOSTEL OWNERS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19
The dean of the Takoradi Technical University, Mr Owusu- Ansah Ankrah and Head of COVID-19 task force, Dr Amefa Apaw Amponsah have promised to ensure that the training of stakeholders in the University Community is extended to private hostel owners to ensure that lives of students in private residence are protected amid COVID-19.
According to him there is currently no legal document binding the School management and private hostels therefore the school is immediately working on a document that will govern the activities of private hostel owners. He called on the private hostel operators to take the personal responsibility of protecting students.
“As I speak, there is no collaboration between the school management and private hostel owners but I am working on a policy to improve our relationship. I believe that if you are a Private Hostel Owner, you have the responsibility to protect the students in your residence, therefore there is the need to spray the various Hostels to protect the students. There is a possibility of training the private hostel owners in the fight against COVID-19”
Dr Amefa Apaw Amponsah, Head of the COVID-19 team also added that her team has commenced training for some stakeholders in the university community in the fight against COVID-19 and is ever ready to extend the training to private hotel operators
“We trained NUGS, SRC, food and business operatives in our localities and gave them certificates to operate therefore there is a possibility of a collaboration between the school management and the private hostels for training. This is very significant because if we record a COVID-19 case at a private Hostel, the owner is likely to face uncomfortable consequences. We are willing to collaborate therefore very soon we will call them board and start talks ”
Sharing one of the the major challenges faced by the school authority in the fight against COVID-19, Dr Amefa Apaw Amponsah advised the students to ensure the maintenance of the COVID-19 protocols in their various dormitories.
“We will intensify monitoring at the dormitory; we will plead with the students to also ensure that they are maintaining the COVID-19 protocols even with less supervision in their various Hall of residents”
Speaking on Adze Kye Mu Nsem on Spice Fm 91.9 with Kwame Offei, the dean of students also lamented on the lack of regards for COVID-19 protocols at various hall of residence.
“The major challenge we had was student compliance at the various Hall of residence. So many a times the school authorities kept cautioning the students to adhered to the COVID-19 protocols, all the same we are happy that we haven’t recorded any case; we will applaud our health workers for good done”
Final year students of Takoradi Technical University are expected to leave campus on 9th August after which a disinfection exercise by the school is expected to commence as part of the fight against COVID-19
