COVID-19: PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE APPEALS TO PATIENTS IN HOSPITALS TO WEAR FACE MASKS.
A Public health nurse at the Emergency department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mrs Priscilla Oware, has appealed to all patients to ware face masks to protect themselves against the COVID-19.
Speaking on Orange Fm 107.9 on Health Lounge on 2nd May, she lamented on the Vulnerability of Patients without Mask and the risk they stand to face.
“I’m more worried about the patients who are on the ward (already ill) – they become more prone, because they are not wearing masks,” she said.
She also stated that, now that the disease can be asymptomatic, it is more dangerous if a patient comes in and does not show any symptoms; they might be allowed to go through to the other wards and that makes it dangerous for the other patients, nurses, doctors and everyone around.
Mrs Priscilla therefore advised that, all patients should wear masks if its ideally possible and if there could be enough.
“I think they should also be protected because, at the end of the day, people that are laying by them may be highly exposed and will carry the virus back home”, she expressed worry.
