President Mahama asks NCA to restore 64 closed radio stations

President John Dramani Mahama has intervened in the ongoing restraint on radio stations, calling for clemency and the immediate restoration of operations for sixty-four (64) affected stations.

In a statement issued by Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, President Mahama directed the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation to collaborate with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to reverse the action taken against the broadcasters.

The President emphasized that while regulatory compliance is important, it must be balanced with the need to protect and promote media freedom. He expressed concern that shutting down the stations during the process of regularising their authorisation could stifle freedom of expression.

President Mahama has urged the Minister to collaborate with the NCA to establish a reasonable timeframe within which the affected stations can regularise their status without interrupting their operations.
