"GALAMSEY" IS NOT THE CURRENT CAUSE OF WATER RATIONING IN TAKORADI-GHANA WATER COMPANY

The public Relations Officer of Ghana Water Company, Nana Yaw Barima Banie has debunked the assertion that activities of illegal miners in the region are the current cause of water rationing in Takoradi.

This follows the recent inadequate water supply to Ghana Water Company’s treatment plant at Inchaban and the Pra Basin which has influenced the Ghana water company to divide Takoradi into three Zones namely North Takoradi, South Takroadi , and Anaji West residential   to facilitate equitable water distribution.

Speaking on Spice Fm’s Adekye Mu Nsem on the cause of the current rationing in Takoradi, he attributed the current fall in water supply to Ghana Water Company’s treatment plants to the harmatan season instead of the allegedly held popular view of illegal Mining(Galamsey) activities as been the cause.

“Because it’s not raining and it’s also harmattan season water availability becomes a challenge, the level of water in our Dams at Inchaban ,  Pra basin together with the water level at Tarkwa goes down which affect our water production , It’s not true that illegal mining is a contributing factor to current water rationing in Takoradi, am not saying that illegal mining  is good  but the only challenge it poses to us is that it increases our cost of treatment and since the chemicals for treatment  of water is normally imported,  it also increase the investment we make into water treatment. For instance during the rainy season people receive water as expected because we were able treat the water without cost of treatment becoming a challenge”

He also added that power outage is one of the major challenges affecting water rationing in Takoradi.

“Fore example on Sunday there was a power outage and this affected Takoradi North to receive constant water supply “.

He advised Takoradi Residents to be economical with how they use water for domestic purposes .

Here is breakdown of the various towns that form part of the three zones currently undergoing the rationing
