Failure To Link Ghana Card To Bank Account Leads To Inability To Withdraw Funds

The Head of Financial Stability at the Bank of Ghana, Dr Joseph France, says commencing today July 1, all persons who have failed to link their Ghana cards to their bank accounts will be unable to withdraw funds from their bank accounts.

According to him, unlinked accounts will, however, be able to receive deposits till such a time when the owner finally links their Ghana card details to the account.

He noted that the process of linking Ghana cards to bank accounts has no expiry date and clients only have to go to their banking centres to have their Ghana card details and biometric data collected.

The linkage of Ghana cards to bank accounts is a government initiative to weed out fraudsters from the banking sector.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Association of Banks is charging customers of banks and financial institutions to without delay update their records to protect their funds.

The call comes a day after the deadline for all licensed and regulated financial institutions under the central bank to accept only the Ghana Card for transactions from today July 1, 2022.

Per the notice from the central bank, the move is in line with the Central Banks objective of ensuring the safety of the financial Eco-system.

Even though the CEO of the Ghana Association of Banks, Awuah has assured that with or without the Ghana card Ghanaians will still be able to undertake banking transactions, he has called on them to update their records.Failure
