General Secretary of the General Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), Edward Kareweh has described President Akuffo Addo’s address on the economy as failing to capture the real mood of the country since several measures outlined to restore hope in the economy did not meet expectations.

“I think that the statement of the President did not meet the general expectation of Ghanaians. This particular statement of the President is to address emergency cases situation but unfortunately, it didn’t satisfy the urgency, and solutions that we need.”

He said, even though the President admitted that the country was in crisis, his delivery didn’t show to meet the urgency the country requires now.

According to Mr Kareweh emphasis made by the President regarding the country’s over-dependence on imports is long overdue stressing that some of its policies are undermining local production hence the urgency to initiate concrete measures that can produce results in the short term.

For him, the decision of government to go after black market operators should be done to sanitize the forex market as their operations are illegal.

He opined that these black market dealers occupy public spaces to trade but the law doesn’t catch up with them.

He asked government to act on its words to see some changes in the economy.
