METRO MASS TRANSIT DRIVERS EMBARK ON SIT DOWN STRIKE
Drivers at Metro Mass Transit Limited in Kumasi have embarked on a sit-down strike following what they describe as the management’s poor treatment of drivers.
The drivers say their salaries and insurance packages are not being paid.
They have also accused the management of not performing regular maintenance works on their buses thereby putting their lives in danger.
Some stranded passengers who went to the terminals spoke to us about their ordeal.
“I came here yesterday and I was not able to get a car. I then came again this dawn and the place was very quiet. We asked and we were told they are embarking on a sit down strike. We do not even know what is accounting for the strike. Nobody is telling us anything,” a passenger said.
Another said: “I came here last night and I was told they are on strike.”
Meanwhile, Police personnel have been deployed to the terminal to maintain calm.
