MTN MOBILE MONEY A ROBOT SYSTEM; YOUR MONIES ARE SAFE – NANA ADEI

The introduction of mobile money by the Telcos made it easier for the realization of the much talked about cashless system, where traders will not carry huge sums of money around in the name of buying and selling threatened the growth the mobile money business in the financial sector.

Mobile Money largely called MOMO in Ghana has suffered many attempts at the hands of fraudsters trying to beat the system through malicious acts.

Speaking exclusively to BUSINESS TODAY’s Kojo Ennimil Arthur on the attempts by some people to defraud MOMO subscribes, MTN Mobile Money Manager in charge of Western and Central Region Mr. Nana Adei mention that MTN received about 365 complaints of fraud attempts each month from its subscribers in 2017 alone.

“The scale of attempts of fraud are staggering as it also indicated that it filtered all the SMS messages that passed through its platforms and blocked more than 400,000 scammed messages on a daily basis, from reaching their recipients”, he added.

According to Mr. Nana Adei, MoMo occupies the chunk of the market and has a strong system that no one can defraud. 

He said “most subscribers cause people to defraud them by entertaining calls from persons who claim to be calling from MTN office.”

That notwithstanding, Mr Adei assured customers that the MTN Mobile Money system is so strong that no one can hack their mobile money account or defraud them without their mobile money pin or their support.

“Customers to be very cautious of their mobile money pin and continue to use MTN MoMo.”
