National Sanitation Day; A fruitless Venture – Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah


The western regional minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah who is also the MP for Takoradi Constituency has rubbished the practice of seizing business activities in the name of National Sanitation Day every month and yet filth has engulfed residents of Sekondi, Takoradi, Effiakuma, Kwesimintsim and adjourning communities.
According to the minister, cleaning our environment should be a daily activity and must not be left in the hands of some group of persons or the assembly.
Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah was speaking to reporters after visiting some communities within the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis that were badly affected by the torrential rains on Friday, May 31, 2019.

“We must learn to clean our environment every blessed day and equally be mindful of how we dispose the refuse we generate.”

“You can clearly see that whiles people are still building on water ways, refuse has also blocked most of our gutters so there is no free flow of water resulting in the flooding we are witnessing in the metropolis”

He emphasized that until be changed our attitude and correct how we dispose waste indiscriminately we cannot resolve the flooding issues in the country even if government construct all gutters and properly structure the drainage deficiency in the country.
Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality respectively are counting their loss after last Fridays torrential rains in which a family at Ngyirasia last five children after the house they were sleeping in collapsed on them.
