The country is expected to make a monthly savings of 40 million dollars savings through the Ghana Gas-Karpowership Pipeline Project in the Western Region.
The project which begun in February 2018 is expected to be completed by June this year.
The project was commissioned as a result of the relocation of the Karpowership from Tema to the Takoradi.
With a capacity to produce a 470 megawatts of power from gas resources from the Western enclave of the country, the issue of interrupted power generation and supply will be curtailed or possibly extinguished.
Head of Corporate Communications for the Ghana Gas Company Limited, Ernest Owusu Bempah at an inspection tour at project site said the country would under a strategic management wean itself off the wasteful cost it incurs for the underutilized power plant; Karpowership.
“The president is very much committed because of the amount of money it’s costing the nation…I mean $40 million is no mean amount that the president will sit down for this to happen. The Karpower project is something the president is committed to, the Energy minister, including Ghana Gas, are fully committed to make sure that by end of June the project should be completed”, he added.
He emphasised that the power to be generated by the facility would resource industries in the Western Industrial enclave to boost productivity and income.
“It tells you that more power, no dumsor, everything is going to be ok for the country’s industrialisation agenda especially, Western Region’s free zones enclave, one district one factory we need power to do all these projects, and this Karpowership project is very strategic for the government. And we need to put these strategies in place to make sure that the ongoing project is completed on time to make sure that we benefit as a nation”, Mr Bempah emphasised.
Senior Manager in charge of Community relations and Corporate Social Responsibility, Joseph Ewuniah detailed that the necessary compensations have been duly processed and that all persons affected by the project would be paid mid of March this year.
“Anything that has to do with utilities, because based on the work we have some pipe water and others…we have to ensure that we restore those damaged installations. Aside that our focus is on compensation. We know, all those people whose lands, structures, and farms were affected as a result of our operations are to be duly compensated, based on the work that is being carried out by the Lands Valuation Division of the Lands Commission. Initially we’ve done the first part of compensation”, Mr Ewuniah noted.
Progress of Work
Engineering and construction works for the pipeline project; will see to the erection of pylons from Transport, Regulating and Metering Station (TRMS) at Aboadze to the Naval Base of Takoradi. This covers a total of 10 kilometer distance; with 3 kilometer of the pipeline to be constructed offshore.
Amandi Construction Limited is the construction firm and is impressively working within schedule.
