TWYFORD CERAMIC EXPANSION PROJECT FOILED WITH LAND DISPUTES

Business Today have learnt that some litigation concerning land titles is impeding a major factory expansion at Twyford Ceramics Limited in Shama.

The company established in 2016 operates as a subsidiary of Sunda (MU) Holdings Limited, and it’s situated in Ntwaaban of the Western Region of Ghana.
Twyford Ceramics is chiefly a tiles manufacturing company with a production capacity of capacity of 14.4 million square meters per year.

Due to growing demand for their products, the company resolved to expand its factory to meet global demands. However, their efforts to realise this strategic agenda is being foiled by legal suits from family landholders and the traditional authority in the area.
District Chief Executive for the area, Joseph Amoah in an exclusive interview with Business Today’s Abraham Mensah said the ministry of trade and the coordinating council for the Western Region have been detailed and involved in measures to address this problem.
He added that the court has directed Twyford Ceramics Limited to proceed with their expansion works as they address the issue regarding ownership of the land.
“…later I think the court allowed them to continue with the work while the matter continues”, he added.
Mr. Joseph Amoah remarked that the litigation has had some negative consequences on the company’s operations, stressing that their financiers have been a bit frustrated about the situation.
“This dispute is creating a problem for the whole project because according to management their financiers in China and Europe are highly expectant of the outcome of this dispute. And so we are on it. But we reached a point where there was a MoU to be signed by the chiefs and the family. Unfortunately the family is claiming that their lawyer is preventing them from signing it which will clear the way for Twyford to continue. So the Regional Minister has agreed that we invite their lawyer to explain why he’s asking the family not to sign”, Hon. Amoah
explained.
