Residents of Sekondi begs for a chief
A cross section of People in Sekondi, calling themselves the Concerned Citizens of Sekondi yesterday, Tuesday March 13, 2018 took to the streets demanding for a chief for the ancient European town, Sekondi which is the seat of government for the western region.
The Peaceful demonstration dubbed “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”, hash tagged, Sekondi Needs A Chief” was the coming together of the Concerned Citizens of Sekondi, Youth organisations and Market Women parading through the principal streets of Sekondi to presents their petition to the Western Regional Minister, Sekondi Member of Parliament, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs and two Royal families involved in the royal combat which has stagnant for decades.
According to the leader of the Concerned Citizens of Sekondi, Ebenezer Kwamena Thompson, the absence of Omanhene in Sekondi has paved a way for parties and individuals to take undue advantage of Sekondi for so long a time.
Sekondi, they lament is lacking developmental projects which has impede the socio-economic growth of the Town. As a Traditional Area, they have not celebrated kundum for the past 17 years since the demise of Nana Ewua Duku I in March 2003.
In an interview with our report Benjamin Bray, Concerned Citizens of Sekondi are hopeful this peaceful demonstration will cause interested parties in the Sekondi chieftaincy crises to sit up grant their desire for a traditional leader.
