Stopgap coach for Ghana’s Female Senior Women’s national team, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo remains confident despite defeat to host nation, Ivory Coast in the opening day fixture.
Black Queens lost to Ivory Coast by 1-0 in the opening day of the maiden WAFU Women’s Cup.
Ghana failed to make use of chances in the first half, the Queens misfired after loads of opportunities came their path in the first half.
The trio of Jane Ayiyem, captain Portia Boakye and Priscilla Okyere upfront failed to make use of the opportunities that came their path in the opening half of the game.
Despite the defeat to host, Ivory Coast, Mercy Tagoe-Quaicoe, acting coach of the Queens claims her side could’ve barrier the game in the first half and they have to work on their goal scoring prowess before Friday’s game against Burkina Faso.
“We were the better side on the day, we spoke to the girls before the game, yes the Ivorians were more physical but we were more skillful and good on the ball,” she said after the game.
“I think we could have buried the game in the first half because we had many opportunities. They scored from the only chance that they had.
“This should tell you that we have a lot work to do, we will try and work on our goal scoring before meeting our next opponent” – Mercy Tagoe was quoted by ghanasportsonline.com
Ghana will be playing Niger who lost 5:1 to Burkina Faso in the next game on Friday at the Stade Robert Champroux.
