Police kill three armed robbers in shootout at Weija

The Police appear to be making headway in the crackdown on armed robbers, following public outcry over the seeming rise in violent crime in the country.

After successfully arresting fugitives who raided the Kwabenya police station two weeks ago, resulting in the death of a police inspector, the police have chalked another success by killing three suspected armed robbers during a shootout at Weija in the Ga South Municipality Thursday.  

The police identified the dead robbers as Joe, Kwame Salsa and Jah Rule. 

Briefing the press in Accra Thursday Greater Accra Police Commander, DCOP G. A. Mensah said the suspects had attempted to seize a police vehicle after being shot .

“This dawn, three suspected armed robbers were shot dead by the regional police in a fire exchange at Weija.”

The three suspects have been under police surveillance satellite for the past three months, and are noted to have been involved in most of the robberies and car snatching operations within and around Gbawe, Bortianor, Weija, Kokrobite and Kasoa stretch,” he said.

 “they succeeded in snatching his Range Rover, but unfortunately they were not able to drive the car, and were compelled to ransack the vehicle of its valuable items and an unspecified amount of money after which the vehicle was abandoned,” he added.

According to DCOP G. A. Mensah, the Police will continue to protect lives and properties by intensifying the fight against hardened criminals in the country.
