Newly appointed coach of the Black Queens of Ghana, Sellas Tetteh admits he doesn’t know the current crop of players for the senior national team, but has an assistant who knows the players very well.
The Ghana Football Association on Monday, February 29 appointed Coach Sellas Tetteh as the head coach of the Black Queens of Ghana and Mercy Tagoe as the assistant coach – the two will head the team for the Maiden edition of the WAFU Women’s Cup, starting February 12 to February 24, 2018 at Ivory Coast.
Ghana will be hosting the 2018 edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations which will also serve as the qualification for the 2019 FIFA World Cup.
The 61-year-old has no previous tie with Women’s Football and admits he has no knowledge of the players, but his assistant[Mercy Tagoe] does – “Football is a universal language. It is the same set of rules and regulations so that should not be a problem.
“I think it is more important to have the experience which I do. With regard to my knowing all the players, I frankly admit that I don’t but I think I have a capable assistant who will help very much in that regard. Once we get the players for the roles, we set to work on the technical bit. That is the most important,” Coach Tetteh told Graphic Sports.
