Breaking: President names Martin Amidu as special prosecutor
His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo has nominated Martin Anamise Bens Kaiza Amidu as the Special Prosecutor , subject to parliamentary approval in an announcement at the Flagstaff House on Thursday, January 11, 2018.
The Special Prosecutor Bill was passed by parliament into an Act on November 14, 2017.
Martin Amidu was the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice from January 2011 till January 2012. He is the man, who introduced the word ‘gargantuan’, into the lexicon of Ghanaian politics, when he opened the can of worms about the Woyome scandal which was set to be the worst financial scandal in Ghana’s fiscal history at the time.
The Special Prosecutor Office is expected to help government to deal with corruption related issues regarding state officials.
The President indicated that Mr. Martin Amidu has indicated his willingness to accept the appointment.
