VOLTA REGION READY FOR INVESTORS-DR.ARCHIBALD YAO LETSA

The Volta Regional minister Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa has stated that the region is ready to receive investors who want to invest in various aspects of agribusiness and other related services in the agricultural sector.
He made the appeal during a joint focus day program to celebrate farmers in the Volta and Upper West regions. The focus day presented an opportunity for the opportunity for the two regions to showcase their agricultural strength and their cultural values.
Addressing the dignitaries and major stakeholders in the agricultural value chain, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa said the region has registered 24,432 farmers constituting 17,466 males and 6,966 females.
Although the fall army worm came as a challenge to to farmers in the region he said the situation is under control and the chemicals supplied to the farmers have helped to curtail the destruction caused by the worms.
The minister outlined great potential areas for investors to consider and improve upon which include rice cultivation and processing,irrigation development,cassava processing and product manufacturing,ginger cultivation,and the need to make the cooling and pack house at Vakpo functional.
For the fisheries sector Dr.Yao Letsa mentioned that the canoe registration and embossment  exercise which is currently ongoing has registered about 1,300 canoes in the region in compliance with the fisheries act 625.
On his part the Upper West regional minister who chaired the farmers day planning committee,Alhassan Sullemana said that farmers participation in the planting for food and jobs program has been encouraging in the region. Groundnuts and cow pea farmers are eager to join the government flagship program in the next crop season.
