Mothers tasked to fight against early childhood marriage – Action Aid Ghana
The National President of Queen mothers Association and Action aid has called on Mothers in the Brong Ahafo Region and Ghana to be steadfast and help fight against Child Marriage.
This came to light when Queen Mothers and Nananom from the Tain, Sene, Banda and Atebubu District and officers of Action aid met in Sunyani to map out strategies to fight against early childhood marriage in their respective areas.
The programme was on the Theme; Take Action, End Child Marriage Now saw the queen mothers association and Nananom in the Brong Ahafo region in a discussion on how parents are to take full responsibility in the fight against early child marriage which has become prevalent in their communities.
In his submission the President of the National Queen Mothers Association, Nana Abena Boatemaa, noted that puberty rights is not idol worshipping but some churches have tagged it as such but that she said is one of our traditional values we must upheld.
She added that it is the sole mandate of a parents to educate their children rather than pushing them into early marriage and therefore called on parents to be friends with their children especially their girl child.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Programmes Manager for Action aid Ghana, Madam Melody Azihim said giving out a child to marriage in the early stages of life will not end poverty but will rather be bring a lot of challenges and difficult times on the family since the girl child will not be matured enough to handle her own affairs how much more marital issues.
