District Mining Committee's to clamp down “galamsey”, -Chieftaincy Minister declares
Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Kofi Dzamesi has stated that government has outlined measures to help fight illegal mining activities in the country and for that matter Nananom should cooperate with these committee’s to support the idea.
He said, the formation of the committees will soon commence in the various districts and chief will be made to chair the District Mining Committees with the MMDCE’s to help fight illegal mining (galamsey) issues at the grass root leave.
The minister was interaction with Nananom in the Kumasi Traditional Area at the Manhyia House of Chiefs in Kumasi on Monday 20th November 2017 during a sensitization workshop on illegal mining in the region.
He noted that government has formed regional reorganization committee and they are working effectively to ensure that galamsey issues are well catered for in order not to destroy our environment.
And Chiefs he said will be included in the committee to check on issues affecting our lands and river bodies to help deal with the galamsey menace.
The Operation Vanguard team he mentioned are also on point with the task giving them to clamp down illegal miners in the country to make the president aims and objectives of protecting our natural resources be materialized.
He however cautioned people to disregard comment speculating on the airwaves that the President, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo aims at making the youths in this country jobless by banning mining activities but stated that the president seeks to put an end to illegal mining activities in the country.
The representative of Otumfour Osei Tutu ll during the sensitization workshop and also the Chairman for the occasion, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia Vi, who is the Bantamahene called on the minister, Kofi Dzamesi to fulfil all the promises made to Nananom during their campaign and also warn the government not to make the fight against illegal mining issue partisan.
