Put some respect on it – Samini to Ghanaian bloggers
High Grade Family’s top shot, Samini has urged Ghanaian bloggers to be circumspect in their publications.
Samini, who himself has suffered inaccurate reportage by some bloggers in the country in times past asked that they be thorough even as they seek to be controversial.
Speaking in an interview with Skinny Akwasi Agyekum Gyimah on Beach 105.5 FM during E-BUZZ, the Ghanaian Reggae and Dancehall musician expressed concern about the manner in which bloggers report on issues.
Samini lamented about how many of the country’s bloggers seem to have no regard whatsoever for the lives and reputations of the people they blog about.
In his view, desperation to get “the most catchy headlines makes most bloggers push artistes into saying ‘certain things’ and then end up twisting and taking their words out of context.”
“Research issues thoroughly when you hear something about someone before going ahead to publish your stories”, the High Grade Family head admonished.
“It is better when a publication has both traffic and facts”, he added.
Samini gave an instance when a blogger asked during an interview what advice he has for budding musicians.
According to Samini, he responded by advising that aspiring musicians learn from some of his mistakes in order not to repeat them.
He was later purported by the blogger as saying he said “his life is not worthy of emulation”, which was totally an inaccurate account of what transpired.
With that in mind, Samini cautioned that bloggers “put some respect in their reports and blogs” as their accounts may either mar or help build careers.
In conclusion, Samini expressed appreciation to bloggers in the Ghanaian showbiz industry who exude credibility and aren’t merely traffic-hungry and attention-seekers.
