DABOASE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CONVERT CLASSROOMS INTO DORMITORIES

 

Authorities at the Daboase Secondary Technical School in the Wassa East District of the Western Region have converted some four class rooms into dormitories to accommodate female borders posted to the school for the 2017/2018 academic year under the free senior high school programme.

In an exclusive interview with Kojo Ennimil Arthur of Beach FM News, the Head Master of Daboase Secondary Technical School, Mr Anthony Insadu mentioned that the school has only one dormitory for the girls to accommodate about four hundred female boarders in the school.

An intervention from the Daboase District Assembly to get the school a single-storey dormitory still sits at the schools compound uncompleted. He said.
With the increase in enrolment of the school through the free Senior High School initiative, the Head Master says they have converted class rooms into dormitories since they do not want to turn any student away.
 
“Currently we’ve got so many girls enrolled in the boarding school which is laudable and in view of that we have converted some of our class rooms into dormitories, already we are short of class rooms and this has compounded the class room situation”.

According to the Head Master they have combined three classes due to the lack of class rooms and five uncompleted classroom block has been cladded with wooden boards giving to them by the Wassa East District Chief Executive Wilson Arthur to ensure that the first year students get their separate class rooms to study.

The inadequate infrastructural situation of the school has compelled the school authorities to erect canopies to allow the second and third year students to have their elective subject’s lessons under those canopies.

The Daboase Secondary Technical School with a boarding population of 900 students has only 3 masters on campus to supervise the activities of the students. But Mr Insadu laments, that does not promote effect teaching and learning.
He explain that Teachers in the School commute from Takoradi to Daboase each and every day and that according to him is also draining the coffers of the school.

Mr Anthony Insadu is however pleading with government and other cooperate organizations to at least complete their stalled class room blocks to take the children away from studying under the scorching sun and consider putting up bungalows for teachers on campus to ensure effective teaching and learning in the school which will very soon be a model school in the Wassa East District.
