If you prefer the original, fine by me – Kidi on 'Odo' remix
Dennis Nana Dwamena, the 23-year-old Ghanaian Highlife crooner, known in musical circles as Kidi has expressed indifference about Ghanaians’ reception of the remix to his hit-song, “Odo”.
Kidi, who won the fourth edition of the MTN Hitmaker in 2015 – a popular television musical talent competition for budding musicians in Ghana – was speaking to Akwasi Agyekum Gyimah and Louisa Ackah on E-Buzz on Beach 105.5 FM in Takoradi.
According to Kidi who is now seen as a lover boy due to his sentimental voice and style, the remix to the aptly titled “Odo” which is currently making waves on many radio and television stations across the country, wasn’t even planned.
He explained that the whole thing was brought to fruition by Mayorkun, a musician signed to Nigerian music star, Davido’s record label.
Kidi disclosed that a few weeks ago, when Mayorkun was in Ghana for an event, he (Mayorkun) kept hearing the song everywhere he went, eventually he fell in love with the song, and decided to be on the song’s remix.
Asked about his view of the outcome of the remix to Odo, the Accra Academy old boy said, “I’ve always wanted my music to reach out to not only Ghanaians, but to a wider base of audience… to Nigeria, to Liberia, to all of Africa and the world.”
“So I felt like this was a stepping stone… I felt like this was going to open doors for the song to go beyond the borders of Ghana. I’m just grateful for what this song is doing and is about to do in my career,” Kidi added.
Concerning the negative reviews the song is receiving from many of his fans in Ghana, Kidi said, “You can’t really please everybody… The original song is already a hit in Ghana, and the remix was meant to catapult the song into other markets… So if you are Ghanaian and you like the original, it’s fine by me!”
Kidi further stated that, “So far, all the people saying the remix isn’t nice are Ghanaians.” He went on to say, people are at liberty to “either like the original or the remix,” and concluded by imploring people to “just have fun and enjoy the song.”
Signed onto award-winning producer, Richie Mensah’s Lynx Entertainment label, Kidi is label-mates with Ghanaian music stars such as Eazzy, Irene Logan, MzVee amongst others.
He has promised fans to expect the video to Odo’s remix to hit their screens very soon.
