Zdravco Lugarosic: The Ghana Premier League's Quality of Play is Declining.
Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach Zdravco Lugarosic has says that the Ghana Premier League is declining in quality.
Lugarosic based his assertion on a comparison between his first stint at Ashantigold Sporting Club and his recent cameo as Asante Kotoko coach.
Zdravco first came to Ghana in 2010-11 season to coach Kumasi based Alhaji Grusah owned King Faisal before his appointment as the head coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club.
He joined Kumasi Asante Kotoko before the start of the 2016-17 season but was shown the exit three games to the end of the first round.
“I saw the Ghana Premier league in 2011, and I have seen it in 2017. It has not grown, it’s not about the quality but the nature of the field. If we (Ghana) want to see the league develop, then we should play on proper quality.” The former Asante Kotoko coach said in an interview.
Zdravko Lugarosic also touched on officiating in the league, citing it as one of the major reasons why the local league has been in decline from 2011 till now.
“Some of the referees are just not fair anymore. There are lot of dubious decisions of late and I think some referees should be given the opportunity ” Zdravco added.
The Polish placed Kotoko 3rd in the league log before his contract was terminated after several criticisms from some section of the fans.
