Police Officer Shot Dead By Gun Men
Two gun men have shot dead a police officer with the Greater Accra Rapid deployment force at Tulaku near Michel Camp in Tema while on patrol duty.
30 year old Michael Kporye who was riding on a motor bike was shot in the face and in the chest. Eye witnesses say the gun men who were also on a motor bike came in from behind the officer and opened fire around the Oando filling station, leaving the constable who fell off his motor bike in a nearby gutter.
Other police officers who were also on duty at the Tulaku Old Barrier checkpoint called their colleagues at Tema to report the incident.
An inspection on the body of the deceased revealed multiple gun wounds on his chest and eyebrow. Several items including an AK 47 rifle,pepper spray, handcuff and torchlight were also found.
This comes at a time when violence towards security officers has come to the fore after the gruesome murder of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira Boase by resident who claim to have mistaken him for an armed robber.
A similar incident of mistaken identity led to to the death of a Lance Corporal who was shot dead by his colleagues after they allegedly mistook him for an armed robber.
