WR: Highways Dir. unhappy with developments along our roads

Western Region Director of the Ghana Highways Ofori Frimpong has expressed worry about developments along the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta highways.
According to him most of the developments are to be blamed for the disturbing ruts at some portions of the road.
He singled out a fuel filling station after Apowa, whose activities, he says is badly affecting the road.
In a telephone interview with Beach FM News Desk, Mr. Frimpong noted it is regrettable that both the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and the Ahanta West District Assembly has given these developers permit to do what they are doing.
“The construction of the road predates the filling station, so the initial construction of the road did not factor in any development along the roads, it is surprising that the assembly has granted them permit for the setting up the filling station along the roads and their activities are heavily affecting our operation”.
For instance “the filling station has constructed a makeshift drains which directs the path of water onto the road so our road has been converted into a drain. And water is an enemy to the roads”.
He was responding to concerns from motorists about the level of deterioration on the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta road.
Mr. Frimpong explained that the contractor who was to rectify ruts on the road failed to turn up.
But he said very soon the office will embark on a pothole filling exercise as they wait for a more permanent solution to the road.
