W/R: NHIS MARKS 15 YEARS OF SUPPORTING AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE IN GHANA

The National Health Insurance Scheme on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 marked it 15 years anniversary nationwide as part of their contribution to health care delivery in the country at a time cash and carry denied many access to health care in Ghana.
Celebrating 15 years of remarkable contribution to health care in Ghana, the National Health Insurance Authority observed the day across the country under the theme; The Path to Universal Health Care in Ghana; Innovating for a Sustainable NHIS.
 

As part of their celebration in the western region, staff of the authority embarked on a float through the principal streets of Sekondi-Takoradi and it adjourning communities amidst brass-band music rejoicing over their success story in spite of the numerous challenges encountered over the years.

The Western Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mrs Edna Baffour told beachfmonline.com that, the NHIS have come a long way with lots of improvement and innovation starting from laminating ID cards for districts base before migrating it to the magnetic ID cards which is currently being used by all.
NHIS she said has introduce biometric ID cards which is helping clients get their bio data into the system to facilitate an instant renewal cards for clients.
“We have realised that it is very difficult for people to get our ID Cards; a midst the long queues in our various offices coupled with the waste of profitable man hours in an attempt to get a NHIS ID Card.”

“This she said has compelled the authority to be innovative in their dealing thus the introduction of the biometric ID cards and the mobile renewal which can be accessed anywhere in the country with the help of your mobile phones by dialling *929# and follow the instructions to have your card renewed,” she added.
Mrs. Edna Gyau Baffour pleaded with Ghanaians to support the scheme with appropriate feedbacks on services rendered to them in the various health centres and hospitals as well as clams due service providers for prompt payment in the coming years.
