Government Urged to focus on Industrialization to boost Economy Demand

Business Analyst, Courage Bouti is entreating the government to industrialize the economy to boost goods and services in the country.

According to him, ensuring the industrialization of the economy would reduce the shocks affecting food supply and other essential commodities in the country.

He disclosed that building factories is not enough but enhancing raw materials used in running these factories would shore up food shortages across the country.

He added that the government should consider setting up industries to boost local production of goods and services which would reduce the importation of foreign produce. Mr Bouti said the government’s policy orientation and support would guide the industries to grow to feed the demand of Ghanaians.

“Let’s look at what the demands of Ghanaians are; let’s look at what we can do to use that demand locally to avoid foreign importation. We need to consider the inputs of the factory to be set up to supply the demands of Ghanaians. Establishing the factory alone is not enough because it needs inputs to keep the factory running, he said.

He cited the Komenda Sugar Factory as ineffective in the production of sugar because of inadequate raw materials, adding that the holistic makeup of the plan that backs its agenda would take time but needs the government’s support to keep running.

“The Komenda Sugar Factory cannot produce because it lacks the raw materials to keep it operating. This makes the machine idle for years” he noted.
