Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi, one of the senior police officers implicated in a leaked tape plotting to oust Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has categorically denied any association with Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.

Superintendent Gyebi vehemently denied knowing Bugri Naabu when he testified before the panel looking into the leaked tape, dismissing the idea that they had worked together on a pre-arranged plan with two other senior police officers to discuss the potential removal of the IGP with President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In response to inquiries from the committee members, Supt. Gyebi emphatically refuted all allegations that he was a part of the alleged plot to oust the IGP, calling them “palpable lies”.

The director of the Cyber Crime Unit and Child Protection at CID Headquarters insisted that he was not a part of the scheme to remove the IGP although he had a long-standing friendship with the other two implicated police officers.

Despite the fact that his voice is not audible on the tape that was leaked, he expressed surprise at having been accused by Bugri Naabu during his testimony.

His testimony conflicts with statements made by Bugri Naabu, who asserted before the committee that he had spoken to Superintendent Gyebi on the phone to arrange a meeting at Afrikiko and to accompany him to the President.

Bugri Naabu also confirmed the veracity of the information on the tape.
