Focus on Ahanta West: Ahanta West Municipality registers more women onto NHIS

The Ahantaman District Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly (AWMA) of the Western Region (W/R) has registered 682 clients with 255 being males and 427 being females as at June 2020.

Similarly, a total of Two-Thousand, Six-Hundred and Eighty-Four (2,684) renewal of NHIA cards were done within the same period, out of which One-Thousand, One-Hundred and Twelve (1,112) were males and One-Thousand, Five-Hundred and Seventy-Two (1,572) were females.

Meanwhile, the total estimated active members as at June 2020, was Twenty-Eight Thousand and One-Hundred (28,100) of which Sixteen-Thousand and Forty-Five (16,045) were males and Twelve-Thousand and Fifty-Five (12,055) were females.

This was disclosed by Madam Henrietta Mary Eyison, Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) of the AWMA at the First Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly. 

Touching on other health related issues, she said her outfit inaugurated the Public Health Emergency Committee (PHEC) with all its sub-committees when the COVID-19 pandemic began to hit hard at the nation.

The sub-committees such as Health, Environment, Education and Security then went into full action covering the entire One-Hundred and Twenty-Three (123) communities within the Municipality.

Madam Eyison announced that under the auspices of the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) and in collaboration with the Ministry for Special Initiatives, the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an Accident Management Center at Apemanim was held on July 2, and estimated to be completed in six months.

She commended the members of the Committees and the sub-committees, the Assembly Members for their contribution towards the fight against the virus in the Municipality and especially the Municipal Health Directorate that confronted both the new and regular challenges.
