In Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, outrage has erupted as reports indicate that one of the six sisters abducted over a week ago has tragically died in captivity.

The assailants, who invaded the family’s residence in the Bwari area, shot three police officers and kidnapped the sisters along with their father.

The deceased sister, identified as Nabeehah, a university student, was allegedly killed on Friday night when the family failed to meet the abductors’ ransom demand of $63,000 (£50,000).

A relative involved in rescue efforts revealed that the kidnappers have returned Nabeehah’s body to the family.

Disturbingly, the abductors have reportedly warned of further harm to the remaining siblings if an increased ransom of $104,000 is not paid by Wednesday.

Tragically, two of the three police officers injured during the kidnapping have also succumbed to their wounds.

While police assert that efforts are underway to rescue the victims, they have not officially confirmed Nabeehah’s reported death.

Opposition leader Atiku Abubakar expressed concern over the incident, stating that Nabeehah’s killing serves as a stark reminder of the unchecked activities of kidnappers and bandits in the country.

He called for a restructuring of the nation’s security architecture.

Peter Obi, leader of the opposition Labour Party, emphasized that the kidnapping in the country’s capital underscores the broader insecurity prevailing throughout the nation.
