Minister of Communication and Digitalization To Address Parliament On Thursday Over SIM Re-registration

The Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu -Ekuful, has been asked to brief Parliament on the SIM re-registration process that just ended and the deactivation of unregistered SIM cards.

Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated the decision was required owing to the increased agitation from impacted subscribers when presenting the business statement for the week.

Numerous mobile network users who had their SIM cards cancelled were left stranded, and some have blamed the National Identification Authority (NIA) for failing to give them their Ghana cards in a timely manner.

Approximately 11 million SIM cards that have not yet been registered were disconnected by the National Communications Authority (NCA), which prompted this.

With the Speaker of Parliament’s SIM card also among cards yet to be re-registered, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful will on Thursday, June 8 brief the House on the exercise and the way forward to restore affected subscribers.

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon. Sam George, backed the majority leader’s proposal and added, “In fact, we should have had this briefing today if possible because we are talking about over 8 million SIM cards disconnected including even the speaker of Parliament.”
