Wearing of facemasks no longer mandatory – President Akufo-Addo

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that from Monday, 28, March 2022, the wearing of facemasks as one of the preventive measure for Coronavirus (COVID-19) in public places is no longer compulsory as it was directed during the advent of the Coronavirus pandemic.

President Akufo-Addo announced during his 28th televised address to the nation on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

“From tomorrow, Monday, 28th March, the wearing of facemasks is no longer mandatory”, the President directed.

But the president urged Ghanaians to continue to adhere to enhanced hygienic practices such as washing hands.

“I encourage all of you, though, to continue to maintain enhanced hand hygiene practices, and avoid overcrowded gatherings.”

Currently, Ghana has 72 active cases of COVID-19, and with more than 13 million vaccinated persons, President Akufo-Addo further urged all Ghanaians to get vaccinated against the illness to ensure that the country meets its 20million target by June 2022.
