The Assembly Member for Assemensudu, Osumanu Ibrahim popularly known as Sansiro has expressed frustration over increasing number of churches and mosques without a single factory as one of the leading causes of unemployment in Sekondi, Western Region.
According to him, he still cannot phantom why the craze for the establishment of churches and Mosques has overshadowed the need to establish factories to improve the standard of living of the people.
He added that one of the pressing needs of the people of Sekondi is the lack of job opportunities therefore it is a misplaced priority when the community channels most of its energies into religious investment instead of productive ventures. The multiple effects of productive investment transcend generations.
“Most of the people in Sekondi are living in their grandparents’ houses, and these houses are the product of the past generations’ labour, what if these houses were churches and mosques? where will the current generation have lived?” he questioned.
He challenged the religious groups and investors to rather build more factories at Sekondi and its catchment areas to make the youth more productive.
Speaking on Adzekye Mu Nsem on Spice Fm 91.9 yesterday, he also called on the people of the Assemansodo Electoral area to eschew the lackadaisical attitude towards communal labour and avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste into the sea at Abum, a suburb of Sekondi.
“Some of the major challenges I face in my jurisdiction is that, when I call for communal labour, people don’t participate, the situation is worrying, also people are disposing waste rampantly into the sea at Abum and this is a source of worry”.
Osumanu Ibrahim also called on all parties in the Sekondi Chieftancy dispute to expedite the process towards resolving the long-standing dispute to facilitate development in the area.
