Leadership of the Concerned Drivers Association, CDAG, have opposed the Ghana Private Road Transport Union‘s announcement of 10% reduction in transport fares effective Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

GPRTU in announcing the reduction noted that, “In line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares, the road transport operators have reduced public transport fares by 10 percent to accommodate for the reduction in the price of petroleum products observed over the period”.

In a press statement jointly signed by the National Deputy Secretary, Nana Owiredu, National Public Relations Officer, David Agboado and the National Chairman, Paa Willie, the Concerned Drivers Association called on their members to “defile the information by the Transport Operators and continue with the already known fares.”

“The current decline in fuel prices cannot be the only indicator for the reduction of transport fares…taxes are on the high, road worthy has increased and the prices of spare parts also on the high”, these they stressed are some of the reasons of their opposition to the transport fare reduction.

They also added that they were not consulted before the decision was arrived at, further urging the public to cooperate with them.

“The driver unions and associations were not consulted as stakeholders before arriving at the decrease of the fares. We urge the general public to cooperate with us when joining our vehicles.”
