The Nananom of the Suaman Traditional Council in the Suaman District in the Western North Region has called for a stakeholder conference following the high numbers of teenage pregnancies recorded in the area.
The Apamhene, Nana Gordon addressing the media on behalf of the Traditional Council stated that girls as young as 13 were getting pregnant, and this is a worry to the leaders of the town.
According to him, these girls drop out of school due to pregnancy, therefore, making them miss out on academic opportunities.
As a way of curtailing these occurrences, the Traditional Council has resolved to fine anyone found guilty of impregnating a schoolgirl with Gh¢ 2000, a sheep to the traditional council, and Gh 10,000 as a consolation fee to the girl’s family.
