Elon Musk calls for Disney CEO’s firing amid ad dispute on X platform

Musk

Elon Musk has called for the immediate dismissal of Disney’s Bob Iger following Disney’s decision to halt advertising on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Musk criticized Iger, stating, “Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company,” in a series of social media posts against the media giant.

This comes shortly after Musk’s earlier remarks directed at companies participating in an ad boycott of his platform, where he urged them to “Go [expletive] yourself.”

Some companies paused advertising on X due to concerns regarding antisemitism.

Disney has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding Musk’s recent statements.

Bob Iger returned to Disney unexpectedly just over a year ago to navigate the company through turbulent times, including financial challenges and the launch of the streaming service Disney+.

He’s credited with significant acquisitions, such as Pixar, Marvel, 21st Century Fox, and Lucasfilm, which led to a considerable increase in the company’s market value.

Musk appeared to reference recent box-office performances of Disney films in a social media post, suggesting Mr. Iger made significant missteps.

He also accused Disney of advertising on other social media platforms hosting controversial content.

Last week, Musk made profanity-laced comments at an event in New York, criticizing companies that had withdrawn advertising from X and accusing them, including Disney, Apple, and Comcast, of attempting to blackmail him.

X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, re-shared Musk’s comments from the event, stating that “X stands at the intersection of Free Speech and Main Street” and highlighting the platform’s supportive community.

Musk’s recent trip to Israel followed his apparent endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory, which he later denied was antisemitic but apologized for sharing.

Despite his apology, many advertisers had already redirected their spending elsewhere. In July, Musk acknowledged a 50% drop in ad revenue on X in a social media post.
