An official with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) estimates that 10,000 people are missing as a result of major flooding in Libya.
The head of the IFRC delegation in Libya, Tamer Ramadan, said, “We can confirm from our independent sources of information that the number of missing people is hitting 10,000 so far”.
Numerous roads and residences have been destroyed as a result of widespread flooding and mudslides brought on by heavy rain.
The port of Derna, where two dams and four bridges collapsed, has been the area most severely affected.
According to Mr. Ramadan, “the death toll is huge and might reach thousands”.
The IFRC may soon issue an urgent funding request to aid Libya’s flood victims.
