Work With MMDCEs And Chiefs To Stop Encroachment On Quarry Grounds – Quarry Operators Told

Mr George Mireku Duker, the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources in charge of mining has urged the nation’s authorized quarry owners to work with their respective metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies as well as traditional authorities to combat the threat of encroachment on their concessions.

In order to prevent illicit conduct, Mireku Duker contends that there must be efficient cooperation among the three parties.

Speaking to the media while on a working visit to some quarry sites in the Greater Accra Region’s Shai Osudoku Municipality, Hon. Mireku Duker argued that since the MMDAs are responsible for issuing building permit licenses, the companies must cooperate with them to ensure that the areas set aside for quarrying activities are protected and not offered to other uses.

The Deputy Minister also gave the businesses the assurance that the government will use its resources to support the efficient conduct of their operations.

He argued that the government has a duty to defend businesses that legitimately create jobs for Ghanaians. He added that the ministry will provide staff and resources to help these businesses resolve their problems as long as it is satisfied with how they are operating.

Mr. Duker also urged the quarry owners to establish a reputable organization that will fix their prices.
