Takoradi Senior High School, Ghana Secondary Technical School and Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School will be locked in a battle for a semifinal slot in the 2017 National Science and Maths Quiz today (Thursday).
With nine contests at the quarter final stage, one out of the three competing schools in each contest will proceed to the semifinal stage. The three contests at the semifinal stage will produce three winners which will make up for the final competition on Monday June 26.
Archbishop Porter Girls Senior High School will be the first school from Western Region to enter the quiz hall on Thursday, June 22, to compete alongside Ghana National College and Aburi Girls Senior High School – The three schools have been chasing the first title since the competition tipped off in 1994, the three competing schools have equal opportunities per their round of eight contest.
Competition two will see Takoradi Senior High School from the Western Region competing against trophy holders Adisadel College and New Juaben Senior High School. Adisadel after amassing 64 points to top their competition and New Juaben progressing with 49 points have the better opportunity to make it ahead of Takoradi Senior High School who answered correctly a tie breaker question to earn 32 points in their last contest.
Being the only school from Western Region to have lifted the title, Ghana Secondary Technical School will enter a competition with three times champions Prempeh College and Aduman Senior High School. The 2012 Champions, Ghana Secondary Technical School, are likely to be on a two head race with 1994, 1996 and 2015 Champions Prempeh College.
The competition at the round of eight stage said bye to these schools from the Western Region Sekondi College, Nsein Senior High School, Nkroful Agric Senior High School and Half Assini Senior High School.
