STMA: GHc135,974 Fines Paid By Motorists For Flouting Road Safety Regulations

According to some provisional statistics released by the National Road Safety Commission, a total of GH 135, 974 was received as fines from motorists in the Sekondi-Takoradi who were charged for flouting road safety regulations in 2018.

A total of 412 of such cases including over speeding, overloading, drunk driving, driving without licenses, expired documents among others, were recorded by the Motor traffic and Transport department of the Ghana Police Service in 2018. Out of these case, 363 were forwarded to the court and 311 convicted.

Western Region Acting Director of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Nana Akua, in an interview with Business Today commended the Police for their effort in pursuing such offences so as to deter others and convicts from doing same.

Nana Akua however urged motorist to take precautions particularly during this harmattan, as their negligence could cause loss of lives, and damage to property.
