RIHANNA DONATES $5 MILLION TO CORONAVIRUS RELIEF EFFORTS

Rihanna is the latest celebrity to help with coronavirus relief. On Saturday (March 21), the R&B star pledged to donate $5 million to a number of global organizations through her Clara Lionel Foundation.

According to TMZ, “the cash will be used to support a myriad of efforts including local food banks serving at-risk communities in the U.S., speed up testing and medical care in countries like Haiti and Malawi.”

Additionally, money will be given to the healthcare industry to help “with protective equipment, maintenance of intensive care units and the acceleration of the development of vaccines and other methods to fight the disease” and distribute critical respiratory supplies.

A chunk of that money — $700,000 — is reportedly going to the singer’s home country of Barbados, where it will be used to purchase ventilators. At time of writing, the country has six confirmed cases of COVID-19, none of which have been fatal.

Earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively donated $1 million to Canadian and U.S. food banks.
