Fiasco at TV licence court

There was no show at the controversial TV License courts which began sitting today across the country.
Ghanaians have kicked against the setting up of the special courts to prosecute defaulters of TV License fee. The chief justice Sophia Akuffo established the courts at the behest of the state broadcaster Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in a bid to boost revenue.
Journalists who besieged the circuit court of Jane Harriet Akweley Quaye left disappointed when business activities started for the day because no docket on a defaulter has been brought to the court.
So far 11 courts have been designated to handle TV License fee cases in Ghana.
According to Starr News’ court correspondent Wilberforce Asare, prosecution is, however, not expected anytime soon since the legal and compliance department of GBC is yet to identify defaulters or charge them.
The courts are scheduled to handle cases of TV License fees every Thursday.
