COP Mensah has described Dampare as the poorest IGP in the history of Ghana

COP George Alex Mensah, a senior Police officer implicated in a purported plot to remove Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reiterated his stance that the current IGP is the worst in Ghana’s history.

He reiterated this point during his appearance before the parliamentary committee investigating a viral tape where senior police officers are allegedly heard discussing plans to oust the IGP in conversation with the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bugri Naabu.

COP Mensah, on Friday, September 1, emphasized, “I can tell you that for the 31 years that I have been in the Police Service, this IGP is the worst IGP.”

He further explained that he had brought several issues affecting police officers’ morale to the attention of the IGP, but his suggestions were consistently disregarded.

In a previous appearance before the committee on Thursday, COP Mensah George Alex had expressed his belief that the IGP’s leadership style had contributed to a decrease in morale among many police officers.

He stated, “Dampare is not managing the Police Service well and the majority of police officers are not happy. You can do your investigations. You can call the police officers underground and they will tell you.”

COP Mensah George Alex also disclosed his political affiliation and his involvement in activities on behalf of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

These remarks aligned with sentiments expressed in the leaked tape, where he allegedly advocated for the removal of the IGP to ensure the NPP’s success in the 2024 elections.

However, COP Mensah George Alex strongly denied the tape’s authenticity, claiming that it had been manipulated and did not accurately represent the original conversation he had with Bugri Naabu. He stated that he was unable to verify several details within the tape.
