Ghana Textiles Printing Company Limited (GTP) in collaboration with Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) has held a three-day intensive training Master Class Workshop at Twin City Hotel, Takoradi to retrain and polish up the proficiency and professionalism of Tailors and Dressmakers to compete on the global stage.

The move forms part of GTP’s goals to become a global African Fashion Brand of Ghanaian Heritage to serve the global market. By achieving this feat, it is important to carry other stakeholders along to work together towards this ultimate goal.

Competing on the global stage includes embracing a high level of creativity, improved service delivery and customer service, and the application of standard bookkeeping principles.

GTP recognizes the shortfall in the market and what could be done to change the narrative, Fatoumata Doro, the managing director of GTP spoke to Spice News Spice about the current challenges confronting the fashion industry

“We know that Most of our Tailors and Dressmakers fall short of the high standards expected of players on the global stage. Complains such as poor service delivery, poor customer service, poor bookkeeping, poor finishing, poor package, low creativity are not uncommon in our garment industry, we want to create a critical mass of very good Tailor and Dressmakers to serve the growing demand for authentic Ghanaian wear inside and outside Ghana”.

The workshop also adopted a comprehensive plan which is expected to use an internal assessment approach to ensure that the best Tailors are selected from the program, she added.

To make this workshop achieve its intended purpose, we have in place an elaborate plan to evaluate the performance of all participants months after their training to ensure that they are actually practicing what they have been thought. We have put a tight quality assessment process to ensure we get the best tailors out of the program.

Similar Master Work Shops are expected to subsequently hit other regions of the country.
