Eid celebrants lament high prices of livestock

Eid

Residents of Accra celebrating Eid-Ul-Adha have expressed their dismay over the exorbitant prices of livestock, making it challenging for them to partake in today’s festivities.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the ‘Feast of Sacrifice,’ is an Islamic festival that commemorates Ibrahim’s obedience in offering his son Ismail as a sacrifice to God upon His command.

During separate interviews with Citi News, some celebrants and sellers lamented the steep rise in prices, making it difficult for them to purchase or sell animals for the celebration.

“Prices have skyrocketed. I bought this sheep for GH¢2,500, which was significantly cheaper last year,” one celebrant shared. A seller mentioned that people were refraining from buying due to a lack of funds in the system, emphasizing that this was not the situation last year.

Another celebrant revealed that they were unable to purchase any livestock as the market prices far exceeded their budget. They expressed, “Items are extremely expensive this year, so we are unable to buy.”
