Resident in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis has lauded the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s decision of retailing food products with the view of cushioning Ghanaians and mitigating the impact of rising food prices.

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in a quest of curtailing economic hardship, especially the rising prices of food items procured from farm produce at the farm gate and sold at a lower price.

In an interview with Beach Newsroom, a cross-section of the public called on MoFA to own the production value chain to guarantee price stability.

Others also stressed the need for a controlled price regime to ensure stable prices of goods across various markets.

“Food prices are very dear, these days. If the government has thought of selling some of the food items at a cheaper price, I think it’s a good idea.”

“I see this move by the Ministry to be a good one because this will allow people to get their foodstuff at good prices. I also suggest the Ministry could get to make the market women sell at a standard price.”

” The market women add their prices when they go for the food from the farms, and this makes the food items difficult to purchase. This will help in a way to manage pricing on the market.”

Meanwhile, some traders in the Metropolis mentioned that the move by the MoFA will not affect their business but rather boost patronage.

Auntie Ama, a vegetable seller said,” I am delighted at the news because it will benefit us as well. We won’t travel far to bring in foods items. It will help us to save some monies which we can even invest in our business.

“This decision by the MoFA won’t affect us in any way. Who doesn’t want cheap things? So they should bring it because now a bag of cassava is sold at One Hundred and Ten cedis. It’s difficult for us,” Another trader stated.
