The National Peace Council in the Western Region has lost a great peace gem as the Regional Chairman, Reverend John Ernest Kwofie has unfortunately and finally succumbed to death.
The Western Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council was announced dead on the evening of Wednesday, February 17, 2021 after complaining of a short illness.
His death was reported at Takoradi where he was residing with his family.
The news of his death has come as a surprise to many as he was recently spotted at the Residency of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) last Friday, 12th February to witness the Council of State Election.
Though the main cause of his death has not been formally communicated to the public, it is alleged that the late Chairman of the National Peace Council died of a heart attack.
The Late Rev Kwofie was very instrumental in the peace building process of the region with an affable character who could connect to all groups, religion and ages at all levels.
He will be remembered for what he stood for in the Western Region and Ghana at large as his last work was a stakeholder engagement on the need to ensure peace before, during, and after the 2020 general elections.
In November 2020, the late Rev Kwofie organized a workshop dubbed “Dialogue session on conflict prevention before, during, and after the 2020 election.” He selected participants from some hotspots in the region for the training.
The National Peace Council played a very important role in the conduct of the 2020 general election. Members of the Council organized workshops to preach peace to the political parties that participated in the election.
After the final declaration of the election results, the National Peace Council had meetings with former President John Dramani Mahama to accept the results.
However, their pleas were not heeded after the election results landed in the Supreme Court of Ghana.
