The National Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana last week issued a Press Release announcing a 10% increment of passengers fare to take effect today Monday, February 22, 2021.
However, upon further consultation with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other stakeholders, the decision has been halted until further notice.
According to them, although there have been several hikes of prices on spare parts, lubricants and some taxes at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), they are taking into consideration the hardship which the ordinary Ghanaian will incur.
This was contained in a Statement jointly signed and issued by the Chairman of the National Concerned Drivers Association, Paa Willie and the National Vice-Chairman of GPRTU, Nii Ankrah copied to all driver unions and associations.
They explained that the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted negatively on the economy hence, the need to reconsider the increment.
“We are calling on all drivers to observe the health protocol aimed at fighting COVID-19. They should also ensure that passengers put on their face mask before entering into their vehicles”, they pointed out.
